Snoqualmie Tunnel – Hike in the Dark

This 2.3 mile abandoned railway tunnel presents a unique hiking experience that my 13-year-old companion, Brianna, was anxious to share. The hike is actually 4.6 miles since one must, of course, return. Snoqualmie Tunnel is a local treasure and is great for a bike ride too. There used to be a shuttle at the bottom of an approximately 20 mile ride that would take you to Hyak, the starting point, but it has shut down thanks to the State Parks Commission. If you work out transportation to the top and a ride at the bottom you can roll down past inspiring mountain views and thrilling, high railway tressels. The trail has the tracks removed and is well-groomed, firmly-pressed gravel. An extremely fun ride that anyone who can ride a bike can accomplish. The hike also is easy, level and unusually interesting.

About sherijkennedyriverside

Left brain, right brain, I can't decide. After many years of successful visual arts pursuits, I'm working on my other creative inclinations. For the past 8 years, writing has been my second full time job, and it's worth every sleepless night. Sheri J. Kennedy grew up mostly a city-girl coasthopping from Seattle to rural Pennsylvania, Miami and back to Seattle. She currently resides on the banks of the Snoqualmie River in the scenic Cascade Mountains. Her heart has found its home.
