This week’s photo challenge, Sea, called to mind one of my favorite photos from a stormy day on the shore. I can appreciate a calm day by the ocean, but I am most exhilarated by the intensity of high surf and whistling winds. I love the wild power and dramatic changes of the seascape. This was a final trip with my father, and we knew the end was near. We chose Ocean Shores because we could ‘walk’ the beach in a car. This enabled us to skirt the water’s edge for a couple miles together, and I’d step out using the door like a shield to protect the camera and to catch my breath, that was literally blown away from my lungs when I was in the open. The tumultuous and beautiful shore gave vent to the emotion we both felt in such a raw way and gave healing like only nature can. I find it comforting to be surrounded by something so much bigger than myself.
