Today could have been called ‘Snowing,’ since that’s the first thing I saw this morning, but the feelings of the day were really more about melting.
Like the feeling of melting back into the covers for a half hour of extra sleep since being snowed in meant working at home.
The skip of a heartbeat when slipping slightly on the hill, finally driving to the office on the packed down snow made slick by the over-layer that was melting.
Oooing and ahing at the beautiful mist on the mountain, unique in it’s texture, rising from the ridges where the new snows were melting.
Feeling the stress of handling the barrage of calls and emails coming in at after-holiday pace that made my still-lounging brain feel like it was melting.
Watching the magical white wistfully as it muddied into mush – melting.
Holding my breath as I looked at the shining road in my headlights traveling home, and hoping what looked like it could be black ice was still warm enough to keep melting.
I am giving each day a unique name this year in hopes to keep from taking any day for granted. Today is: Melting
I hate driving on melting snow and I hate driving on black-ice even more! I’m glad you got to work and back safely.

Thank you! I did wait until it was reasonably safe to venture out. It’s just the curvy little hill out of our neighborhood that’s rather treacherous. Then I watched the temperature like a hawk to make sure I got home while it was above freezing, but I still felt nervous as I gained elevation near our house since it wasn’t much above the freeze point, and the temperatures posted for our area are generally figured for town, which is considerably lower and usually warmer. All is well as ends well, as they say. 🙂

I sympathise! Our temperatures are always a few degrees less than the local town too. Not that we’ve had many cold days this winter yet!

Yes, it seems to be staying milder there this year. Often our weather is somewhat similar, but ours has been unusually cold.
