With the intense moisture and tall trees come all kinds of growths. When high winds rush through, tiny samples drop like paratroopers onto the mossy ground below. There’s a whole other world nestled at my feet – always worth a closer look.
These images are part of a series posted chronologically from one river walk on Jan 13/18. I wanted to take you along on this beautiful winter day and share what you might have stumbled upon if you were walking in my shoes. To take the whole walk, start with clicking on Along the Way and use right arrow or Older Posts button to scroll through them all. Or use the Search tool just below the posts to find Along the Way. I’ll keep adding images each day until we wander back home.
Beautiful nature!

You know I love these – paratroopers – funny! It certainly is a whole world that gets flung down to our feet for us to inspect. The second one – I think it’s Usnea longissima – is a favorite. It won’t grow if there’s too much pollution – a good sign for your favorite river!

That is good news. I didn’t know that. I notice a distinct difference in air quality between here and Seattle. Even between here and Issaquah. And of course the river is a pretty straight flow from the snow melt for much of the year. It’s very clear, and as far as I know quite clean so far. The biggest problem is pet waste, I’ve heard.

That all makes sense.
