News & New Year

20181224_130912First, I’d like to wish you a Happy Day today and All the Best to you in the New Year! Next, I’m delighted to say I’ll be back posting photos more regularly again. I got a new camera for Christmas. An amazing surprise from my husband. He’d noted I had dropped off using mine and when he found out I was discouraged by its failing sensor messing up many of my shots, he conspired to inspire me again.

In the meanwhile, I was inspired by a favorite photographer and blog-friend, Bluebrightly to try a image grouping challenge. She describes her journey with this Six photo project and her (well-deserved, in my opinion) success in Seeing in Sixes magazine. She shows a lovely example of six-image groupings here. So I’ve decided to do a series of Six-photo groupings to give some form to my posts and encourage me to see in a new way as I gather and choose images to share.

Looking forward to being back here at the Riverside sharing with you all. And I’m excited to see what you’ll be posting this coming year too!

(p.s. This photo was taken on my phone the day before I knew I’d have a new camera. We took a drive on Christmas Eve since it was such a pretty day, and I was enthralled with the beauty we found along the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. If only I’d had the new camera to catch it in full detail… But I’ll be posting more from this gorgeous trip nevertheless.)

Left brain, right brain, I can't decide. After many years of successful visual arts pursuits, I'm working on my other creative inclinations. For the past 8 years, writing has been my second full time job, and it's worth every sleepless night. Sheri J. Kennedy grew up mostly a city-girl coasthopping from Seattle to rural Pennsylvania, Miami and back to Seattle. She currently resides on the banks of the Snoqualmie River in the scenic Cascade Mountains. Her heart has found its home.

First, I’m thrilled that you’ll be posting more photos! And thank you so much for the compliment and links, that’s very kind of you. How cool that you were surprised with a new camera! I admire your resolve in setting out to post series of six photos – it will be a great challenge and I think it will work really well for the blog. Then there’s this photo – wow! I can’t believe that was taken with a phone. It’s exquisite. There is great beauty in your neck of the woods, with the river, the fog, Mt. Si….I can’t wait to see more! Have a wonderful 2019, Sheri!

    • Yes, thanks again for the inspiration. I realizing grouping into a thoughtful 6 will be more work, but I’m intrigued by that poetic concept of the connection and juxtaposition between images. Even surrounded by such beauty, it became mundane after 5 years or so to just post a photo a day of the area, so I’m hoping this will give me fresh eyes and excitement to share again.
I’m quite happy with the beauty captured with my phone that day, but there are several images that suffered in the translation compared to what I know they could have been, and many I just couldn’t take since I was missing a zoom with details preserved. But I’ll post about the specifics later as I share them. Have you been out to the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Recreation Area? It’s paved much further out now and is truly an astounding drive with many hikes available and several short walks to incredible and varied views. I know it’s further from you now, but you may want to take an excursion there sometime. Happy 2019 to you!

That is a wonderful photo and like ‘bluebrightly’, I am amazed that your phone could do so well! I too, have been disappointed with my camera recently and have hardly taken any photos this year. My eyesight isn’t as good as it was and I have trouble seeing whether the camera is focussed properly and focussed on what I want it to be focussed on!
I am so pleased you are returning to blogging after a rest and look forward to your new posts! A Happy New Year to you and yours!
