Covered in Snow – Update

I chose the photos for today’s post a couple days ago. Since then it’s snowed considerably more, and in fact it’s snowed for over 3 more hours since the photos in this post were taken. But here’s a fresh update showing about 23 inches of snow in my yard… Set of Six.

    • I don’t remember ever seeing more here. We were kept home for 7 days in the end.

Snowed in for a week! I hope you had enough food.

        • Our grocery stores were sold out and/or very low on the essentials like eggs, milk and bread just before the storm since everyone heard it was coming and stocked up for it. Even though we tried to stock up, we got down to pretty much oatmeal and beans, so my husband went out to walk to the store one day. (About 3 miles away!) He got picked up both directions for a ride from folks with a high clearance 4 wheel drive truck, so he didn’t end up walking too far. Many people here have vehicles like that for riding trails off-road since we live in the mountains. Usually our Subaru works great, but the snow was just too deep for it to clear, and it was too softly packed to stay on top of it. I think we were more bored with our choices than truly starved, but the larder was getting somewhat bare. And we were craving things that were fresh!

What a time you guys had! I like the birds here – that’s a little Kinglet, isn’t it? And another Varied thrush, so pretty. Someone who shall remain unnamed in this household was calling them bouncing balls when it was snowing and super cold. 🙂

    • 🙂 Bouncing balls. 🙂 Yes, another photo that was too blurry to share revealed it is a Golden-crowned Kinglet. Such a sweet looking bird. It always amazes me how such tiny and gentle seeming creatures are so hardy in the snow. They add so much cheer when it’s so white and otherwise still outside.
