My friend Ellen’s Kindle is only $0.99 today on Amazon. I pre-read it and it’s extremely well written, insightful, and a moving story. It’s an excellent guide to healing from grief or any hurts you harbor.

This story also uniquely portrayed how one might help someone close to them who’s had a loss. It can be difficult to know what to say or what to do for someone deep in grief, and her experience and story gave me new and deeper understanding.

I used to be a grief counselor (in the olden days). Grief is something people often don’t talk about and don’t know how to listen to.

I think the listen is the key to helping someone, and it has to be on their personal schedule. But that offered truly open ear can be a life-saver. I’ve processed my own grief mostly through writing and time with nature, but a good talk or a friend and partner who just is there and understands is a special and good thing.
